A co-worker has been out for a week, is still suffering pretty bad symptoms. Is trying to telework, but can't do full days. Sore throat and so much phlegm that he has to interrupt Teams calls to run to the bathroom and spit it up. Headache and body aches and cough and on-again-off-again fever and dizziness.
He was vaccinated and boosted, but skipped the last booster because he had COVID last year. Should have waited a few months and then boosted on top of that, but it probably wouldn't have helped all that much from what I hear. The latest variant seems to be different enough that the old vaccine offers little protection and protection from the vaccine/boosters seldom lasts much more than 4-5 months anyway (so this once-a-year schedule the CDC is pushing is BS).
...There are some studies suggesting that if you've been regularly vaccinating/boosting you might have a robust immune response against a broader group of coronaviruses than otherwise, and it may last longer. I'm hoping this is the case for myself as I've got health issues and COVID could really mess me up. I've been boosting every 4-6 months and I'm due for a booster right now, but I'm holding off for the new booster supposedly coming in September, and I'm trying to time it so that it's still providing protection from the mid-winter surge they're predicting.
