I think any superpower endeavors to be ready for any conflict, explicitly. I’m sure our military has made sure we are ready for any kind of war with China. So they are probably just “Trumping” to help with negotiations. But yeah, I am certain Trump thinks he can win this tariff war, and he won’t. Especially long-term, probably not even short-term.
