Dem Socialist, also Muslim, soundly defeats Cuomo in NYC mayoral primary

For the actual reasons Mamdani got the votes, we'll have to see what the surveys of actual voters turn up.

In the meantime here are some of the impossible promises he made:
In videos posted during the primary race that routinely went viral – particularly on TikTok – he called for free bus rides, universal childcare for New Yorkers with children aged six weeks to five years, and rent controls and rent freezes.
He wants to plow $70 billion into housing and almost double the minimum wage from $16 to $30 an hour.
---One of Mr Mamdani’s most controversial policies is city-controlled supermarkets, where local authorities would get to decide how much food costs.

As well as being New York’s most Left-leaning mayor, he would also become the city’s first Muslim leader in a city that is home to about 770,000 Muslims.

His anti Israel politics have been manifested from at least 2021.
Last week, Mamdani said that “globalize the intifada” was a legitimate expression that could be used by Palestinian supporters.

With the crazy level being what it is right now, it feels like anything can happen. And you know what they say about that … If it can happen, it will happen… Cuomo isn't going away, though - regardless of the outcome today. Given the financial pressure that el Trumpo can put on those he doesn't like - or those who don't do his bidding - who in their right mind would really want to be a mayor of a blue city in a blue state right about now ? … unless they can somehow be assured that the grift factor will be in their favor.
