I can now admit that I had already opened it up to install a half GB RAM chip and I was worried I had done something wrong! I was 99% sure I had done it right and the chip, although cheap on eBay, did come from a Pismo. I had even put the original back in with no joy before I came here for help.

OK, so now all I'm waiting for is the replacement battery (in the post) and I will then be setting it up to provide music to my hifi.
