Is a 400mhz sawtooth faster than a 450 mhz blue and white?
#5
Not just AltiVec, or my favorite name, the Velocity Engine, the G4 is much faster than the G3 on several levels.

As everyone has said, AltiVec aware apps.
But, not only apps, OSX is AltiVec aware.
But hardware improvements make the G4 a screamer, read all about it.:

Damn your fast Nathan.
As mentioned, no B&W FireWire booting, the FW is not on the motherboard, it is a card.
The coolest thing about the SawTooth is that you can stuff in six hard drives in the case, and it has three firewire buses, two external, one internal.
Created when there was still hope of factory firewire drives, way before the the HD guys stole firewire and dumbed it down to create SATA.
