I have been looking at getting the MP830 (same as MP800 but adds fax, auto doc feeder, subtracts slide/film scanning). Several generic cartridge vendors indicate that they are "working on" replacement cartridges but don't have them yet since this line of cartridges is brand new. My understanding is that epson has had "chipped" cartridges for a while and that those are all available as generics, so I don't think this is a problem for the Canons.
