I didn't have a huge LP collection (maybe 50 or 60), but I did end up buying most of them on CD over time. I still have a handful of LPs, but haven't listened to them in over 15 years. I now have about 500 CDs. I will not replace them if some "new" format comes out. My ears are to the point where I can't really tell much difference between the CD and a decent MP3. Yeah, I have an iPod, and I've ripped a bunch of CDs to MP3, but that's just for convenience. I don't plan on getting rid of any of the CDs.
As for movies, I won't be rushing to upgrade any existing DVDs to whichever HD format wins. I'm in the process of converting a bunch of VHS to DVD, but only because over time the quality of the VHS deteriorates.
