Improving in the area doesn't necessarily equate better soon or better to the point of good enough in a timely manner. I know from experience and believe me, I decided never again a long time ago. That's why I left AT&T for Sprint and then in turn left Sprint for AT&T again once its GSM service was good. It's too bad cingular skewed AT&T customers else I'd stay with them without hesitation.
That said, in my experience, signal improvement in the area means if it gets better, it will do so very slowly and at the convenience of the provider, not the people who subscribe to it. My guess, it'll be very good if not fantastic by the time your contract expires. Unfortunately, between now and then you'll be so frustrated with the service that you'll jump ship when that time finally arrives.
