The "skipping" problem (which is really locking up) is only a problem for maybe 1% of users, even less if you have the iPod in an armband. I must caution you that even at 1%, that is tens of thousands of users. If you wife has a normal smooth gait when she runs or jogs, it shouldn't be an issue. I have never heard of it being a problem on a stair master or eliptical machine.
yes, I know all about the iPods and exercise-related issues. we went through 3 3rd gen iPods before Apple finally stepped up to the plate and gave us a video as a replacement. the 3rd gens were the worst.
