WHy would anyone want to install a SATA drive into an external USB case - what difference could it possibly make?
Oh, that's easy!

If I upgrade the 80GB HD in my MacBook and replace it with, say, a 120GB model, I need to be able to do something with the leftover 80GB. Since the MacBook can boot from USB, I could put my original drive in a SATA<->USB (or FW) case and use it for storage or even just an "emergency startup disc."
