It's there in plain English. You said there are risks involved with the job and then turned around and said that cops are not paid to get shots fired at them. And, then you continue to say, "Sadly, it does go with the territory."
Yes, Virginia, they are paid to have shots fired at them. Last time I checked that was a risk, no? It's also a risk that most people are not willing undergo for a $42,000/year starting salary. That's why so little people register for the academy and even less complete it.
If they do not understand "shoot to maim and not to kill" and are not mentally prepared to take those risks in the practical application and not just the theoretical training sense, then I don't want them "protecting" me. The same goes for the scumbag cops who don't want adhere to "shoot to maim and not to kill" .
