Audio Question: Going from Vinyl to Digital

You risk damaging your G5 Mobo when pluging in a powered amp. Not saying it isnt going to work, but just be cautious to lower the volume of the Amp before connecting it to the G5. A safer option would be to get an iMic.

I use Sound Studio and iMic. SS came with the iBook.
You dont need an Amp for the iMic, just plug in the record player.
