Audio Question: Going from Vinyl to Digital
#11
You don't need an iMic. I've found that the Mac's audio in works fine, and I've played my stuff over some pretty big systems. Just go from the amplifiers line out to your Mac's audio-in. Do you have recording software? I use Spin Doctor. I also never clean up my audio. My vinyl is in good condition, and I actually like an occasional click or pop. Do a few test recordings where you experiment with the bass. For me I start by zeroing out the treble, mid, and bass. Then I knock the bass down a few dBs. Before I did that I was getting some pretty muddy recordings. Take the tests and play them on a few different players and find what sounds best. I found that listening in a car, and listening on ipod headphones are good tests.

I like to record to AIFF. Then I burn the complete CD for an archive copy. The cd is also good to rip your mp3's from. Most of the time iTunes will be able to find track info if it's a whole album.
