Actually, Sam, it sounds like this is the same thing. I'm fairly certain that it was the same guy (Negroponte) who was behind the earlier idea, and the story says it was first talked up/conceived two years ago, and that Negroponte has spun the project off into its own non-profit (it was a project of his under his auspices with MIT, apparently).
