Well - with a 36" diagonal, and a 4:3 aspect ratio, that screen will have dimensions of 28.8" x 21.6".
That means the 16:9 picture will have a width of 28.8" maximum. With a 16"9 aspect ratio, the picture height will be 16.2". This would be the equivalent of a 33" 16:9 aspect ratio screen.
All of the above was calculated using the Pythagorean theorem http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pythagorean_theorem
Hope this helps. If it were me, I'd get the lcd, just to save myself from a herniated disc.
