Interesting... question re public domain

While searching for sources to buy "The Odd Couple" on DVD (TV show, NOT the films), I ran across this page:

... is he right, is it in the public domain? Or is he likely to get nailed for video piracy?

If it is public domain, this would seem a great use for torrent...
