Don't mess with Miss America

I believe that if there is due cause, law enforcement can hold a person for 72 hours before they have to press charges or release them. If you have a big dollar attorney who is a loudmouth and you have lots of money, they will cut you loose sooner. So how would the "detention" be illegal if they were let go in a timely fashion after their story checks out, or if there isn't enough evidence?
