>>>Then there's his good buddy Pat "Hoof in Mouth" Robertson, who says we brought 9-11 on ourselves because of the gays. Not to mention his prayer parties to bring about the deaths of those who don't follow his dogma.
And before you bring out the "It's these fringe whackos who give Christians a bad name" argument, I will say that these asshats are more mainstream than you care to admit.
You're right, I woudn't agree that pat and jerry are typical of christians. But unfortunately (or not), people are people, and they aren't even nearly perfect. I've never met a christian who cares anything about pat or jerry though (I bet most are in their 80's).
>>>Not round these parts. I live in the same town as Jerry Falwell, who is happy to tell me that his unconditionally loving God will cast me to Hell because I did not follow the proper Baptist protocols.
I know you probably don't care, but something I've heard a lot is that it makes God sad when we don't do well. I would imagine it would really bum him out to ship people to hell, but that's part of free agency, in that we have been given that choice. None of that interferes with the idea that he unconditionally loves us. Just like with children, you don't let them do anything they want just because you love them.
I haven't come in contact with many people who think only their denomination is "saved", but they probably exist. I think they're wrong, and I would bet a majority of christians would agree they're wrong. There's a huge amount of diversity of belief among even the people in one church, not to mention all different churches, so to characterize them all based on jerry and pat seems awfully wrong to me. kj.
