OT: Suspect in chase may be charged in connection to helicopter collision
#5
"Tabloid journalism"? I disagree. Unless you're talking about the Orlando Sentinel displaying the pictures of the air crews dying. But what the heck, it's good for ratings.

It seems like a very big stretch to say that this collision was somehow caused by the felony committed. Generally there is the subject of involuntariness on the part of an innocent victim, the death of a coconspirator, a citizen attempting to aid the police, or a police agent involved in the pursuit.

I think one person, the Chief who made the statement, may have spoken prematurely.

The lone exception (in my mind) would be if the helicopters were reporting the activity and direction of flight to the police as well as the viewing public. In attempting to aid the police, one or both of the helicopters might possibly be seen as police agents, or coming to the aid of the police.

If the DA can pull this off, more power to him (or her).
