What a terrible tragegy.
A local helicopter reporter was interviewed on one of the news stations here and he said that in Chicago, unlike many other cities, the person piloting the helicopter is NOT part of the station "talent". The pilot has no other duty other than to fly the aircraft and the reporter and/or cameraperson is the one reporting on the activity.
I didn't hear the whole report so I don't know if this is standard practice or not, but it was definitely something I had never given any real thought to. I found it very interesting.
