I bought the FIRST VHS Hi-Fi machine, the JVC HRD-725U (U is for USA). [STILL HAVE IT ....and the full-page ad someone a decade later found for me and gave me from playboy]
I was always disappointed in tracking issues with VHS Hi-Fi that caused either too much W&F or distortion or flipping to the linear audio tracks. I have a lot of VHS tapes that are audio-only; kinda like that time in technology's DVD-AUDIO, I guess; in that not a lot of people pack so much audio onto DVDs today, either, like I did with VHS tapes back then.
My favorite first tape was The Police Synchronicity concert.
