Me, Too! Complaint! New Nano Must Run on Tiger, WTF???
#39
Yeah actually, I agree the requirements probably shouldn't be so stringent, but why not read the requirements of what you are buying? Why do consumers think that they should be able to not even read the box and/or online product description and then be frustrated when it doesn't do what it says it won't do. Again, I bought a non-Apple digital audio player and it listed Mac OS 9 support on the box. Guess what, it needed Mac OS X to run. So, this is not just an Apple thing. At least Apple was up front that they may be intentionally screwing you, Cowon (the company who made my other DAP) was not.

To be fair to Apple, they do support two revisions of Mac OS X and two revisions of Windows. If Vista had come out around 2004/2005 as planned and MS was revving up their next OS release for late 2008, I bet you would see XP support likewise disappear.

Tiger will cost less than $50 and is a better operating system than Panther. Even before I migrated to a MacBook Core 2 Duo running Tiger, I had also recently made the leap to Tiger on my old iMac G3. I felt like Tiger was a nice improvement over Panther and made my iMac feel like a new machine...until it died two months later. Not related to the upgrade I don't think, the CRT simply became too dim to remain as one of my two primary computers.
