Is one of the most important ports for laptops missing from the MacBook Air?
#9
Well I still think that leaving the locking port off is a bad idea. And I think the MBA would be a good college machine. Lots of college campuses now are almost completely wireless and a lightweight Mac with a long battery life is a +, and its powerful enough for school work. And parents have no touble sending kids off to college with $2000+ MacBook Pros so cost isn't an issue.
And unless macphanatic former employer recovered the stolen laptops he has no way of knowing if they still worked after being ripped from the cable.

Are the cables a deterrent for the determined thief? No (no lock is)
Are the cables a deterrent for the opportunistic thief? Yes
