It's funny: the dweebs on Engadget went on for years and years about how Apple needed an ultra-light to compete with stripped-down, expensive models from Sony and whoever else. Now that they have one, they're complaining it'll never sell. (Shrug)
Laptop docks are inelegant and clunky and becoming irrelevant with all the wireless options we have today, let alone future options (wireless USB or Firewire). Just plug in the external display via Micro-DVI adapter and pair your Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, and your MacBook Air is "docked".
I don't think the MacBook Air will be a failure, but it doesn't serve a very large demographic IMO.
