[quote IronMac]I just saw a local Apple reserller/retailer drop their prices on the previous generation. It made little sense to buy the previous generation when for just a bit more you could get the latest and greatest. For example, up here in Canada, before this latest price drop you could buy the previous generation for:
1799 for the 2.2
1999 for the 2.4
The new generation is going for:
2099 for the 2.4
2599 for the 2.5
So, for just an extra 100, you're getting a great machine in the 2.4.
With the price drop of the 2.2 to 1699 and the 2.4 to 1899, it makes a bit more sense now. The fact that it's a month since the new generation came out and that there are still prev gen machines out there seems to indicate that there are a lot of them out there.
The old 2.4 model has a 4MB L2 cache, while the new 2.4 model has a 3MB L2 cache, so the old (cheaper) model will perform better. It also comes with the Apple Remote, which is a $20 option on the new one.
The new 2.5 model has a 6MB L2 cache and will perform much better, but costs $2500.
