I went to a wedding yesterday. Two very close friends of mine who happen to be gay. The previous weekend I went to a wedding of two of my wife's close friends who happen to be lesbians. Despite the fact that about half of those present at both weddings were straight married couples I didn't see any marriages that needed protecting in any way (except perhap protecting the newlyweds from the religious yes-on-8 zealots). All I really saw was large quantities of happiness. There were even some bible belt folks at one of the weddings (family of one of the grooms who grew up in Iowa). They seemed a little bit agape at the proceedings but I talked to them and had the feeling that they were thinking "this isn't so bad after all".
