Just me but I prefer one big monitor over two smaller ones. And I'm really not a fan of dual monitors that are symmetrical with the gap running straight down the middle. That middle part is the focal point of my attention so it's exactly where I do NOT want a gap.

If you don't want to move up to a 30" monitor, you might consider duals with a 24" widescreen as primary and a 19" 4:3 (technically it's 5:4) since they're approximately the same pixel density as well as vertical size and resolution. That would be similar to Jim's setup except the secondary would be wider than Jim's (which I believe is a rotated 17" WS).
