I don't see how the smaller government that fiscal conservatives want could possibly address any of those concerns, unless tax cuts magically cure every economic and social ill known to man.

We need to give the government more so we can pay down the national deficit and national debt, period. I'm more of a fiscal moderate, but from what I've read, more economists rate Obama's economic plans as having a much better chance of being effective than McCain's. Although Obama's choice of phrase of "spread the wealth" was clumsy, he was pointing out the fact that the rich have gotten exponentially richer over the past 10-15 years while the middle class has remained stagnant or fallen backwards, and it seems that much of the middle class is waking up to that fact. We should not reward and enable the lazy, but we should no doubt have a much fairer system than we do today.
