Really easy to find out if it is the router. As mentioned above, pull the router from the mix.

Pull the power cord from the modem. Then remove router and connect modem directly to Mac. Plug in modem power cord. Wait until lights settle, then power up Mac. Test with iChat.

If problem is gone, the router needs replacing. If problem remains, then the ISP needs to fix the problem, either in the cable/DSL connection or in the modem.

To get a router back in the chain, unplug the modem from power again, insert the router. Then plug in the modem, then router, then launch the Mac. You should wait until the modem is ready before powering up the router, and the same for the router before launching the Mac.

This routine has been posted many times on this and the other forum, but no one seems to find these postings. Not just by me, but a number of others.
