Amtrak loses money even in the densest corridor in the nation even though it is sometimes cheaper to just fly. Which "investment" is going to fix that?
Let's divert 1/10 of the subsidies for automobile infrastructure to passenger rail, and then we'll talk again in 2-3 years.
I love riding Amtrak, and am happy to pay more than for less sustainable modes of travel.
Investing? Amtrak has been at the trough of the government for 40 years. You are talking as if they have been abandoned to fend for themselves. Every favorable condition exists for rail travel in the northeast and they still can't make it. What more do you want us to do?
