There is a a difference between having a parent (or spouse or partner) with an addiction and dealing illegal drugs. That difference becomes more pronounced when the person doing the dealing is the one that's supposed to be setting the example for the children they're raising.

There are reasons a good person might end up with an addiction (chronic intractible pain for example). There is no way one would deal in addictive substances unless one had a fundamental inability to distinguish right from wrong.
It is naive to suggest that such values, or lack of values, don't get passed along to one's children. I wouldn't go as far as to suggest that it's an automatic reflection of the character of everyone that person associates with (although, unless there's a post missing here, a-dog didn't either).
