The government controls millions of acres of parks and forests, wetlands and beaches. What really bothers me is the environmentalists get there conservation lands (which are taken off the tax roles) and hold them close to their chest then peer over the fence line at what is going on on the neighboring (taxed) property and think they should control that too!
We have a single highway running north and south through the county. It is the main (6 lane) thoroughfare. Malls, strip malls, 40+ traffic lights in a 20 mile stretch, lots of 18 wheel traffic and in general a real mess. We need a by-pass disparately. There is an ideal route on the west side of town that borders a state park. The right of way is ready to go, but the park environmentalists "friends" keep blocking it. It's not IN the park, but they want to control it anyway. Save the spotted owl (that has thousands of acres inside the park) while people die on the highway all the time.
The extremer enviros are nuts and Robert Redford is one of the biggest. And in the article it talks about not being able to drill because it may distroy "the view". Sounds like Ted Kennedy and NIMBY to the wind farm off shore.
Thanks, swampy. You're always a source of amazement for me.
