I downloaded and installed Windows 7 from Microsoft today. I'm impressed so far. They've managed to polish a turd. It is Vista, but without the suck. It is definitely faster. Vista just feels like towing a barge through molasses. This is snappy. I'm using an older Dell Latitude D610 laptop with only 1GB of RAM and it still feels useable. I can't install Anti-Virus software on it yet though so it might slow down quite a bit after that. They seem to have finally figured out when to warn people about various actions. It isn't nearly as annoying. In short, this actually feels like an improvement over XP. Is it a big improvement? No. More like Leopard to Snow Leopard, but with better graphics. I will say though that the window of opportunity for Apple to steal users from Microsoft based on the suckiness of Vista is closing. Firefox installs just fine. Opera works. Chrome works. OpenOffice works. It boots pretty darn quickly. It looks like the demo of Longhorn that Bill G showed off so many years ago.
