No problems with 3.0x. No problems with 3.1b2, either, not counting the typical extension compatibility lag.
The 1.9x version of Gecko used in Fx3 does a better job of rendering pages, is faster, and makes use of the modern graphics libraries in OS X instead of the legacy QuickDraw libraries 1.8 used.
Fx3 is noticeably faster on a slow machine.
Some people dislike the behaviour of the new address bar [awesome bar], but some of the criticisms have been addressed in 3.1. I believe that is what FHM may be referring to; the Bookmarks Toolbar can be hidden, and is the same as it has always been.
To avoid problems, my advice would be to export your current bookmarks, then import them into a fresh profile. Problems often stem from conflicting extensions or corrupted profiles. Most here seem to give up too easily and fall back on 2.x or Safari, rather than taking a few easy troubleshooting steps.
