Sounds more like a domestic incident gone wrong but boyfriend doesn't want girlfriend in the hoosegow so the made up this story.

you guys missed the introduction, the guy is kind of funny in many ways and I saw him pulling many jokes on colleagues and I can definitely see him sneaking up behind her while she was grilling (why wasn't he grilling I don't know - isn't that a man job anyway?). not a slim chance of domestic incident.
