you can get magnification, but you loose light pretty fast, and need to get closer. It's what is known as bellows extension factor on view cameras.
My nikon 55 3.5s are 1:2, and have a matched tube for 1:1. The Sigma 105 is 1:1 by itself. AF is slow. but at macro, you should MF and probably use a tripod, or at least a monopod or rest of some sort. Also, on a tripod, use timer and/or mirror lock up functions to minimize any camera shake. It really shows up with macro shots.
