HD stands for Hybrid Digital when related to FM radio. It does not stand for High Definition, which is usually assumed to be super high quality.

HD FM radio frequently has severely compressed dynamic range to make it sound loud. Think of the loud commercials on late night TV as an example. It can be very tiring to listen to.
