You still have to use a hacked copy of Leopard, whether you own it & hack it yourself or d/l it. The Dell Mini 9 works with a standard retail copy of Leopard and you can update it all the way to 10.5.6 and possibly beyond.
Any time you update one of those kludged installations, you stand a very good chance of breaking something because you don't know what is inside the "black-box". I had an MSIWind that worked pretty well with 10.5.5 and when I updated to 10.5.6 the keyboard and trackpad didn't work. I returned it and got a Dell Mini 9.
