$2 parts matter when you're talking about a commodity-priced product with no opportunity to make up low margins via a pricey subscription-based model (as they did with the iPhone)
Exactly how would Apple distinguish themselves to command enough of a price premium to make entry into the flat-panel segment worth their while?
OMG, however will poor Apple get access to those standards, not to mention the $2 parts?
