do you have a digital multi meter? I think there should be some +5V even when the computer is OFF (to power the USB keyboard), so poke around with the DMM if you know how it works and understand how to measure voltages properly. If you don't know the difference between a voltage measurement (where the DMM is in parallel to the component you are trying to measure) and current measurement (where the DMM is in series), then don't do it.
