Bring vs take grammar

maybe they view things from the opposite perspective as you do? you seem leaving your place with something, and then the TAKE it away from you. But to the place where they are going, the BRING it there.

Supposed they go to a party and they talk to the HOST and ask "what should we bring? a cake? a bottle of wine?"

Should they ask "what should we TAKE?" no. They TAKE any food (leftovers) at the end of the party, if they are offered any by the host ("would you like to TAKE some cake back home?").

just a thought. I am not saying this is correct or not, English is my second language which I learned very very late.
