I agree. I am flying Ryanair on Wednesday and I have used them several times. "Checked" baggage means that your bags have been submitted to an extra screening process (one that you do not get to witness).
If your "checked bag" and your "carry-on" are only subjected to the same (less than stellar) security process I have seen at several "international security check-points", I would be very concerned.
