That was what the optional USB modem from Apple was for. So few ordered it, they discontinued offering it. But it has been years since I used a modem. By this point I have probably lost most of the hard earned knowledge of getting one set up up right and trouble shooting a dial-up connection. If I did have to fall back to using a modem, I do have several older Macs with modems or modem ports. I could set up a dial up connection with one and pass it through to my home network. It does not take much CPU power to share the connection.
