I'm up at 5 a.m. to read the paper and swim my laps at the nearby YMCA. With kids, evenings are no longer my own time. I sleep late on weekends, arising around 6.
Oh, and don't bother me with any important things to do after 2 p.m. I'm ready for my siesta.

When I was 11, I got a job delivering the Herald Tribune. I woke at 0550 and, was outside waiting for my papers which were dropped off about 0615~0620. I folded the papers and then delivered them on my bike. On completing my route, I changed for school, ate breakfast and, was then off to school. In a short time, I was waking up just before my alarm would go off. Years later, I was no longer delivering papers but, still woke at 0550. It's amazing how much you can get done that early before the normal distractions arise.
Sadly, for the last 40+ years, I've been on irregular / rotating shift schedules. My internal clock now has no idea which way is up. I'm hoping that when I retire, I'll be able to get back to being a morning person again.

Most of my life I was a 'later the better' type. Woke up at 11 or later. WHen I had to be up for jobs in the AM, I NEVER got used to it (like EVERYONE says). I'd just lose sleep all week long and catch up on the weekend. A miserable existence. Somehow, I could get by on 4 hours/night, but near the end of the week, I'd be a zombie.
However, I moved to a new place in the spring and I have been waking at 7-8 since - naturally. I haven't kept such an early sched since I was 12.
I used to really miss the mornings...
I work my own hours, I can get up when I like...

hal, that sounds enjoyable. I'm envious of people who can make their own hours. I can't anyway, because I have little people in my house, but just being able to work when I'm most productive (all PM hours) would be nice
like testcase, I used to deliver papers for about 3 or 4 years, rising at 6am every day. my problem is my natural clock is just set for later hours and I don't see getting back to that. which is why I want to become a farmer... ;->

incidentally, there was a great feature in the NYT some months back about wandering the city in the night time hours. I felt right at home reading it, although I don't live in NYC.

I am a dedicated night person. I don't even begin to come alive until 10 p.m. or so.
With the exception of all people on this forum, I have always thought that a morning person, especially a happy, cheerful one, was a sign of insanity.

I'm up at 5:30, I find I get tons of work done before the phones start ringing at 8:30. I usually go to bed around 11pm. When I was younger, I always stayed up until 2 or 3am and slept in. Not any more.

My Wife the night owl lives that time zone for all of her adult life. I am the other way around. It was difficult for quite some years being two ships passing each other on the way out of the harbor. We finally managed to meet half way. The funny thing is each our dogs has taken on each of our sleeping habits as well.
