It is coming to us this weekend. I have only "seen" -40 F once, but it is hard to know since most or all thermometers bottom out at -30 or -40. -20 F is about when cars start having a real hard time starting; -30 F lots of cars won't start; -40 F engine oil is like taffy. Monday morning may be interesting around here.
Might as well get out and enjoy the day, though, eh?

I like -40. It's easy to convert.

It's a beautiful *looking* day here in Michigan. Sunny with clear blue skies.
It doesn't feel too beautiful outside but I can't complain too much since it's about 12F (above).

Just got back from our morning walk. 3.42 miles according to Runkeeper on my iPhone. Time: 1:03:32, 3.23 MPH. -22 when we left, -21 now. And it truly is the windchill you feel: -30 but feels miserable on the eyes. I had a heavy layer of frost on the inside surface of my glasses. But we layer and a scarf to wear over your mouth is essential to warm the air you breath. My wife is from Mexico City and she hates the cold but loves to walk in it. She says it's 'invigorating'.
And the Falls officially hit -46 which was a record for the day. |
