$1399 is a lot of money. $1599 is just a bit more for a noticeably bigger experience. So I say go with the 27".
21.5 vs 27?

Marty,
In that case, I'm with the others. All things considered relatively equal and you have the space and the funds, go for the larger display! ![]() I had to replace the 20.1" LCD I use with my tower. at the time, the price difference between another 20.1" model and a 24" model was only about $50.00 to $100.00. I went for the 24" display. No regrets at all! Robert

I have the 21.5" and I suggest you go for the 27"... More Real Estate is very very nice.
Adding Ram is also key to a little snappier performance I currently have 12GB after adding an 8GB package from OWC. I really like the magic mouse ..The Zoidbergperson makes sense to me *(:>* re/Mice; if those are your choices, I would say the Magic Mouse because it's kind of a best-of-both-worlds, though the trackpad is the future. I have the trackpad and I'm honestly not too keen on it. Ken Sp knows the future *(:>* By the way can you pick up a MacBook Pro for me also this weekend. although out of stock at the moment, great deal for ram

I upgraded from a 24" iMac to a 27" iMac and have not regretted it once. In order of importance the three factors that got me to spend the money on a newer computer were:
1) size of monitor 2) size of internal hard drive 3) speed Sold the 24" iMac and kept the wired keyboard with numeric keypad. (Working in the back office of a bank during college taught me to touch type with a keypad.) Have got a Magic Mouse, an Evoluent 3 vertical wired mouse, and a trackpad on the desk. The Evoluent and Magic Mouse live to the right of the keyboard, the trackpad to the left. While I really like the Magic Mouse a lot, I reach for the Evoluent vertical mouse much more frequently. Next in frequency of use is the trackpad. I think that's mostly to switch hands, rather than the design of the trackpad, though it's nice. Every so often I use the Magic Mouse. When I do, I'm reminded how nice it is, and then go back to the Evoluent mouse. The vertical aspect just feels more natural and comfortable to my hand and forearm. Todd's keyboard

Get the 27" and the magic trackpad.
Use it IN ADDITION to your magic mouse as you get accustomed to it. Then you truly have the best of both worlds!

Have you had a chance to use audition/use both sizes? The biggest factor is going to be your eyes and the place you are using the monitor. If your space is limited (ie: you can't push the chair back any further) and you aren't planning to use it to watch movies/netflix, then a 21" maybe fine. That being said, the 27" is probably a better choice if you have the space. (I had a 27" quad imac and one reason I got rid of it and went to a 24" + 15" macbook pro, was that the 27" was too large for the workspace area.) My 2 cents.
