what is your super power?

> what is your super power?

Spacial relations and hierarchical analysis.

I can look at a room and furnishings and in a split second figure the most efficient way to arrange the furnishings in the room. I can look at the beginning of a database that someone else started and instantly extrapolate how the final version should look and how to execute it. I can play with an application for 5 minutes and extrapolate the existence of parts of the app that I haven't discovered and the workings of an entire suite by the same developer. I see flowcharts a little differently than most people.

I ace handheld puzzles that rely upon 2D transformations. Puzzles of greater intricacy take a little longer, but I can usually figure them out by imagining them flattened out like a map-projection.

I don't organize compulsively. I like a little chaos in my life. But when I organize I do so decisively and thoroughly.

As a juggler I'm more stubborn than gravity.

Ooh! Perhaps I could persuade you to come over and help me with my garage.

Yes-- it's simply not possible to have the 'ability' to pick out isolated things by glancing at a page without also having the tendency to pick out snippets of information and respond to them acontextually without realizing you've done so.

I almost missed that . . .

My "super power" is the ability to understand mechanical devices at a glance, either in person or from schematics. This power is so natural to me that for years I thought everyone had this same ability, but then I started working at a job where a minimum basic mechanical understanding was a requirement and I found out that a large segment of the population just can't figure out how mechanical things work no matter how hard they try or how many examples they are shown.

I have that one, too. In fact, earning my mechanical engineering degree taught me to see the world on entirely different terms than I did before studying engineering.

I have an odd ability to be able to look at an entire page of text and pick out spelling errors, grammatical errors and poorly written sentences virtually instantly. Those things stand out as though they have flashing neon signs on them.

I also have this one. People marvel (not always in a good way) at my ability to do this.

I remember one time some years ago I walked into a buddy's office at work while he had a Word document onscreen (a 17" CRT). Literally within an instant of entering his office and without even really looking at what he was working on, I called his attention to two spelling errors in the document. Oh, did I mention that his monitor was sitting approximately seven feet from the entry to his office? He looked at me, then looked at his document, saw that I was correct, looked back at me and asked, "How the F*CK do you do that?"

Honestly, sometimes the ability is more of a pain than it's worth. It often aggravates the hell out of me that others don't catch this stuff.
