Cleveland kidnap story = tabloid sensationalism

The story does not involve Jews or Israel therefore it does not qualify as news by "Steve G." standards.
Are phony alien autopsy/abduction stories more to your taste?

No, nobody would ever try to "play" the public over child soldiers in Africa.

Oh, wait....

Yup, ONE thread from over a year ago. Where are all the others? There were thousands and thousands of children kidnapped over a number of years and forced to murder people. Just gets a peep here. I guess they weren't white or female enough.

I think you missed my point Steve. The Joseph Kuny story was more media hype than reality.

You guys remember the story of the two boys found being "kept" by some man in Missouri?
Similar in a lot of ways, but I guess keeping female sex slaves is more interesting to the world population than keeping teen boys.

I notice that nobody here got worked up when thousands of kids were kidnapped and pressed into killing people as "child soldiers" in Africa.

Why would people in America care about that? We're so far removed and so insulated from that kind of misery, plus there's no money to be made. Let's face it, Africans suffering is not "news" and won't garner the interest of America. Hell, they had genocide in Rwanda and no one cared.

You are being had. They are exploiting other people's misery to gain listeners and viewers.

And is that some kind of wakeup call to America? That the "news" uses people's misery to gain listeners and viewers to bolster their ratings numbers and increase advertising revenue?

You'll want to be talking with Ms Drop about this:

This story absolutely should be in the international news.
It's not only compelling but a lot can be learned from this.

I'm very glad to see it there.

Don't know what your problem is with that Steve G.

If you're trying to make a point, it's not clear.

I don't have a problem with the Cleveland story in the news.

Everyone has to make a living.

It's got all the makings of a ratings winner, but it doesn't mean it's not interesting. I'm the first one to complain about local murders going national but this isn't a murder, it's a bizarre crime coupled with a more-or-less happy ending. It's a like a Venn diagram where you have several factors overlapping and the center part is News Headlines.

If it makes it to PBS Newshour, does that sanctify it? Has Al Jazeera managed to avoid the story what does NKK News say about it?
