I planted Wisteria to go over a pergola for shade. It had been there about 23 years and half of it just up and died last summer. One week it was fine and green and the next brown and dead. There were two stalks, one on each corner, diagonally, one died, like I said, and the other is just fine. I have no idea what happened to the one plant. It was weird.
Also, mine was the more cold hardy Chinese Wisteria that was supposed to have white rather than the purple flowers. In all those years, it never bloomed. I have been very disappointed.

I really like my wisteria. However, you have to be brutal with the pruning and maintenance. It can not be allowed to have access to your gutters or siding. Mine grows along a long fence and is quite gorgeous. I hope I never have to try and get rid of it. I suspect it is quite hardy.

roundup is for the lazy. dig up what you can and then solarize the spot where it was growing (put a large sheet of transparent plastic over the spot)

A wisteria root is like a 4 to 5 foot long carrot. Solarizing the dirt above it is just eliminating any competition.
