M-A-M, using the version of FaxSTF that came on the extra CD w/ a G3 MT that had the internal modem option from the factory, and the "PrintToPict" drivers to output the faxes into different formats. The 7300 actually replaced a PowerCenter Pro that crapped out (since rebuilt and redeployed) that was serving the same duty, so your PTP should be fine. The 7300 is using a USR Sportster 56kb din 8 serial fax modem hiding in a 33kb case... a real Fry's special from way back when.

They advertised the high speed modem for about half of what other 56kb modems were going for at the time, so I jumped on it as the mis-marked case didn't make a difference. Damn thing didn't work. Took it back and exchanged it. Still didn't work. They virtually all came back to Fry's, and the price kept going down. I called USR, and figured out that the cables they supplied had the wrong pin config, so they sent me the right cable for free. Been working great ever since. Got a couple more for other people, and clued the Fry's crew in on the cable thing, after which they sold the modems and a bunch of extra cables, but by then the price drop far exceeded the price of the extra cable.

I really like billb's 1400 "actively" keeping the shelf clear of dust as the most creative use, but I guess I should have been clearer that the subject mac must be running, and the productive benefit provided must be based on tasks accomplished by open applications being run by said computer's powered on cpu...

The old beige G3 266 (upgraded to 768k, OS 9, firewire/usb card, 40 gb) is our main family web surfing, quicken and word processing machine. I know I could get a mac mini to replace it, but there's never seemed to be a compelling reason to do so. It's a bulletproof machine that is relatively fast for most things and never crashes. Ambrosia's maelstrom also gets played regularly, and my son is using it to improve his keyboarding skills.

I still do page layout and photoshop (for friends and the occasional community group, freebie stuff) on my 6400/300 (upgraded with a Sonnet card and RAM Doubler and a video card). I wouldn't say I use it regularly these days, but when I have to scan or use Quark it's the machine I use. I haven't gotten around to upgrading because graphics is more like a hobby than a job these days, and that's a lot of money to spend for a hobby.

Heavily upgraded G4 Sawtooth that I use for scanning & ripping music from CDs.
I have a Mac Classic sitting on a shelf over the Sawtooth that still works, but have no reason to ever use it.

PowerMac 7500 G4/400 1GB RAM OS 10.4.6 in my remote office. I use it a couple times a day for the web, email, MS Office, and it runs an FMP7 web access database in development for a client 24/7. It is in continual use.

I also have an 8500 G3/500 512MB OS 9.1 which get used every weekend for stripping Macrovision off old videotapes as I convert them to DVDs on my DVR.

My "new" Big Grin machine is a Beige G3/400 OS 10.3.9 which runs a data server w/3x 120GB HDs in it.
